About ‘Sociologically Imagining York’

Welcome to the ‘Sociologically Imagining York’ podcasted-walk from the Department of Sociology at the University of York. The walk takes you on a journey through the city, exploring 16 different sites via a sociological lens. Each podcast is voiced by a sociologist from the department, and reflects their research expertise in discussing the value of thinking about the city and world around us sociologically.

The walk was initially designed for first year sociology students, who take a module called ‘Cultivating a Sociological Imagination’, but we hope that it will cultivate the sociological imagination of people beyond the classroom. We encourage you (whether you are a sociology student or not) to check out some (or all!) of the stops on our self-guided, podcasted-walk. We are confident that you will learn something!

You can follow the ‘Full Podcasted-Walk’ route, select one of our ‘Curated Walks’, or just check out a few locations of your choice. The podcasts are around 5-10 minutes long. You can find directions to, and further information about each stop on the dedicated stop pages. You just need to make your way to the location on the map, and when you are there, press play and enjoy!
